Description |
Murnong, or Yam Daisy, is a perennial herb native to Australia grown for it's edible tuberous roots. It is a member of the Asteraceae family and it's yellow flowers resemble those of dandelions. The toothed, narrow leaves grow in a rosette. The plant is unique in that buds dangle before flowering, become upright while flowering, and dangle again once the seed head ripens to facilitate seeds' dispersal by wind. Roots can be roasted, baked, or eaten raw and are sweet with a slight coconut flavor.
