Description |
The Moringa, or Drumstick, Tree is a fast-growing, deciduous, drought-resistant tree native to the foothills of the Himalayas. It's young seed pods and leaves are very high in nutrients and used as vegetables or dried and made into a powdered nutritional supplement. Seed pods resemble drumsticks and contain brown, globular seeds 1cm in diameter. Roots have a taste similar to horseradish. The bark is whitish-gray. Trees can grow as tall as 12m, but are often kept to 1-2m in cultivation for ease of harvest. Moringa trees do not tolerate cold or frost and thrive in semiarid, tropical, and subtropical areas.
