Lemon Myrtle is an evergreen shrub to small tree native to the subtropical rainforests of Australia. The plant can be slow growing, but forms a dense canopy of glossy evergreen leaves and white flowers. It is grown as an ornamental and for it's culinary and medicinal purposes. The crushed leaves have a strong lemon smell, and the essential oil is antimicrobial. Lemon Myrtle is used in indigenous Australian cuisine and herbal medicine.
