Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family (Malvaceae) that contains several hundred species that are native to warm-temperate, subtropical, and tropical regions. The species are divided into three main groups: Tropical, Hardy Perennial, and Hardy Shrub. Growing conditions vary from group to group. All species have large, 4-18cm wide, trumpet-shaped, showy flowers. The genus includes annual and perennial herbaceous plants, woody shrubs, and small trees. Hibiscus is generally grown as an ornamental. A tea can be made from the flowers that has a distinctive tanginess and color.
