Alexanders is a biennial wildflower that was widely used in Ancient Roman and medieval cuisine. It is now an almost forgotten food source, as it's use in many dishes was replaced by celery in the 19th century. The stem, flowers, roots and seeds of the plant are edible, and it tastes like a cross between celery and parsley. Alexanders has a solid stem, bluntly toothed leaves, yellow-green flowers, and black fruits. It's seeds need a period of moist, cold conditions to germinate.
